At the end of our photo shoot in Philly yesterday, most of us (everyone except my wife and son) went to the Dali exhibit. The art museum step fronts are covered with a line-by-line mural of the same image that’s being used for all of the ads around town (and you may recall seeing this image before). Tobi was taking shots of the front of the museum head-on when Jon suggested that a more oblique angle might yield a more interesting picture. And he was right: this is Tobi’s interpretation of what Jon was talking about.
Unfortunately, Tobi’s two weeks in Philly are now over, and he is currently flying back to his biological family in Germany. I’ll be posting some of the shots that he left behind over the coming days, along with some that I took while he was here. And if I manage to get some of my color film developed (I shot with both a Rebel G2 and an old Petri Racer for the two weeks), and if I manage to get reasonable results out of my new 35mm film scanner, then I’ll post some of them as well.
Update:Tobi tells me that Jon had the camera for a while, and this particular shot might have been either of them.
I think the red stairs are central to holding the viewers’ attention in this photo. The photo has good saturation in the small parts with color. I really like the way this photo is framed, and I especially like the angle. I would crop the ground at the bottom slightly, but I wouldn’t crop it very much. Nice shot!
Great angle!
love those stairs !!
Thanks all, even if it’s not my shot! Nate has confirmed that this shot was taken by Jon, so I’ve updated the attribution above. I should probably tell Jon that his picture has wound up on the web!
