Sorry, I missed yesterday. We had a fantastic birthday party for Jake’s 1st and by the time everything was cleaned up, I was totally beat.

For his first cake experience, he had four. Yes, four cakes. Sue’s a fantastic baker; she made strawberry shortcake, Jewish apple cake, and Schokolade Kirschkuchen (my favorite, a chocolate almond sour cherry cake). His grandpop bought him a more traditional “happy first birthday” chocolate cake with insane American sugar icing.

I’m proud to report that Jake devoured the Schokolade Kirschkuchen before he went anywhere near the others. He ate about half of the chocolate cake, played with the icing, and then he was done.
