Taken down on the Schuylkill River today. Thanks to Steve B. for pointing out the Regatta to me; I wouldn’t have known otherwise.
Shot with the 5D, but with my soft 100-300mm IS lens. Now that I’m using it on a full-frame camera, I notice the vignetting that wasn’t apparent on a 1.6 crop sensor…
I think the vignetting is too slight to notice.
And you didn’t tell the most exciting parts of the story, that you had to shoot from the opposite side of the river! And that the coxswain no longer holds a megaphone, but has one of those ear-bud/mini-boom mikes, like pop stars and chain restaurant “servers.”
“the coxswain no longer holds a megaphone, but has one of those ear-bud/mini-boom mikes, like pop stars and chain restaurant “servers.””
Really??
My dad was a coxswain when he was at Penn (long ago) and when I was growing up I had so much fun playing with his old megaphone!
Love the shallow DOF on this, and particularly the yellow and blue colors on the surface of the water.
Yep, it’s true. They wear itty-bitty headsets and seem to speak relatively softly, rather than yelling. From doing a little internet research, it looks like it’s called a “Cox-Box”. Do a Google search on it if you’re interested in more details.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m just glad that I managed to eke out a shot that I liked while racing around trying to get back home as quickly as possible. 😉
Glad you could use my suggestion! I think that it was the most megaphones-per-square-yard that you could ever come across!
