I like this a lot, but I agree, my inclination would to bring the people forward a bit through contrast adjustments.
This feels like a shot that would look great printed big on Kodak Metallic paper.
I might consider cropping off the right side just a little bit (and therefore maybe the top too, because I think it would look best with a fairly rectangular aspect ratio) to avoid the darker spot in the upper right and the closer, sharper, larger droplets at that side of the frame. Or if you’re up for some selective editing, replace that stuff with elements copied from the left side, or blur it.
