No Throwing the Ball Indoors
Jake, God bless him, is always happy to help daddy set up backdrops and strobes. And then pose, if only for 2 minutes.
And here he is, trying out the boundaries of the “don’t throw the ball indoors” rule. I can just see the gears spinning, trying to figure out if it’s more important to daddy that he have a subject, or that the ball not be thrown in the house…
I know it’s just a “test shot,” but I really like this.
Thanks, Tony. I really like this one too. The final shot was also pretty nice — look for it online in a few weeks. 🙂
I really like this one too. Might you share the lighting details?
Whoops, that was me.
Hi, you.
ABR800 ringflash on a stand, facing back into a white brolly, as main 30 degrees off to Jake’s right; Canon 580EX/II on stand as fill flash about 45 degrees off to Jake’s left. If memory serves the ABR 800 was at about 1/64 power, and the fill at about 1/128 power.
A pair of Pocket Wizards controlled the Canon flash, and the ABR was triggering on flash.
The dropoff in light at the bottom of the frame is from shooting faster than the strobes sync. I knew that I’d lose part of it around 1/125, but thought I’d see just how much light I’d lose at 1/200 in this test shot. I liked the effect with the 135mm lens, but then chose to move to the 24-70mm for the final shot and the effect was too pronounced.
