Twenty-Seven and a Half
Light snow in the morning, which turned to disgusting cold rain. No shots from outside, then. No problem, I wanted to get a shot for MacroDay anyway. Someone already took my idea of a bass guitar string vibrating, and there’s already a harmonica… so I had to go to a fallback instrument around the house. Much less portable, let me tell you. This would have been at a lower ISO, but I wound up holding the camera by hand for the shot — at 50mm with a Spiratone Series VII No. 2 macro adapter, flash on a 2-foot cable, while striking the key with my big toe. It was quite a sight; my wife loved it.
Tomorrow I go back to work. I can hardly believe that it’s been two weeks since Sue went into labor with Jake! I want another two weeks, but alas I have projects waiting that can’t wait any longer.
So who understands the name of this shot?
Please, more pix of your son. Guess Who
GREAT WORK,!!!!
Hmmm…I would take a guess and say it means the key that is being pressed? I like the shot. Very cool. I’m still working on my macroday shot.
Anonymous: Strange, you sound like my mother-in-law.
Daniel: thanks!
Dawn: Yes. The round off-white thing is the hammer, which strikes the strings. The smaller off-white things are the dampeners, which pull up momentarily when the key is pressed and stop the string from vibrating when you release the key. I love the mechanics of pianos…
Oh, and I forgot the picture’s name reference. The string being played is the lowest A on a typical piano (“A0”). Its frequency is 27.5 Hz.
