Sadly, the light left me to wander down the canyon. With a little foreground light, this would have been an awesome shot. As it is, I think it’s passable.

I see your point. I’d be tempted to paint some splotchy light (adjustment brush, +1-+2 exposure) onto that tree in the foreground, and maybe a little on the ground up front and on the ridge in the background too.
My guess is that if I tried that, I’d really want to like it, and then would eventually reject it. But that’s what I’d be tempted to try.
