Cemetery 1
This morning I was happy to see that the fog from last night had only gotten thicker! Before work I spent a half hour in a nearby cemetary taking shots. The next couple of days will be shots from this series that I really like.
This one is our least favorite of the series. Too much sky overhead doing nothing. I desaturated it because the not-quite-green grass didn’t lend much to the shot, but I”m not sure that it is any better in black and white.
No, the empty sky is needed. First, if you’d cropped, the horizon line would have been smack in the middle. Ew. Secondly, the sky emphasizes the isolation of the cemetery. The B/W shot is better at conveying the mood — and if I say that, I who always prefer color, you know it’s true. You took a better picture than you think.

quite the solemn subject. i get the feeling of slowly moving toward the grave marker because of the way you’ve composed this shot.
Spooky. Very good lighting for the subject.
this image is creepy but really nice. nice tonal value throughout the entire compostition. really sets the mood.
Thanks all. I love fog! I actually went out to shoot in a playground first, and while there I thought of the cemetery. I’m glad I went over there — time well spent.
Beautiful… great match to the theme aswell!
And for those that don’t know what theme Renée is talking about: I’ve submitted this for Moody Monday’s “Gloomy” mood.
Gloomy, but also very peaceful.

Gregz: Thanks. Email problem should be fixed.
That is quite a tear jerker of a scene. I can only imagine a crying widow…weeping her sorrow through tears longing for another day of companionship.
